Hello bookish friends !
This is Haïfa.
As you’ve probably noticed, we usually post only book reviews on the blog. May be that will change in the near-future, may be not ! We’ll see ! 🙂 But today I’m trying something new (and fun) !
THE RULES ARE :
- Create your own new post and call it “Tag: This-Is-My-Truth-Now” and be sure to include in your tags the words — without quotes — “ThisIsMyTruthNow Tag”
- Be sure to mention the person who tagged you and maybe tell everyone something interesting about the person who tagged you.
- Include a link to the original post (https://thisismytruthnow.com/2017/05/31/tag-this-is-my-truth-now/) mentioning the creator of this tag (James @ This is My Truth) so we can see how many people choose to play along.
- Choose 12 bloggers to tag and include a link to their latest post, so others can check them out and meet new people.
- Answer all 12 questions in The Challenge Questions section, but replace the 12th question with your own new one around telling the truth or revealing something interesting about yourself — you can leave the existing if you can’t think of something. (comment your answers to my question below before you change and post)
- Make sure to add your own DARE to your tagged guests at the bottom of the post!
- If you haven’t been tagged, but you want to play along, you can totally jump on in and post responses to the tag on your blog.
- Include these rules when you copy/paste to your own post.
TRUTH: Answer the challenge questions as truthful as possible!
DARE: If you choose not to accept the tag, you have to follow through on whatever dare the person who tags you chooses
The DARE chosen by Maram is to read books from my least favorite genre for a whole month! Cute ! Thanks Maram ! 😀 But nope ! I’ll pass ! Even reading ONE small book in a genre I abhor is beyond me. I can’t even think of a whole month of pure torture !
So here we go !
Question 1: You’re on your way to a birthday dinner that your friends have thrown for you. When you arrive, your favorite author is having dinner by himself or herself and asks you to sit with them, before you even see your friends or they see you. You have two choices: (1) You can sit with the author but can’t tell your friends that you’ve abandoned them for three hours, or (2) Meet your friends and lose the only chance you’ll ever have to talk with the author. Pick one or the other — no exceptions or communication to your friends to tell them about the author — and explain why.
Tough question ! It would be a blast to meet one of my favorite authors (Sanderson, Sullivan, Rowling, Gwynne or the Andrews couple…) but I’ll probably decline ! 1/ Because since I wouldn’t want to gush and fangirl and make a fool of myself, I’d probably be stiff and reserved and I wouldn’t find any interesting stuff to say (and end up making a fool of myself anyway). 2/ Because if my friends threw a party for me, I couldn’t possibly ditch them! Friends and family are super super important to me. 🙂
Question 2: You’ve got an opportunity to spend a few hours alone “in your bedroom” with a character from any book you’ve previously read. The character tells you that (s)he would like to lock the door and spend some alone time with you. What book and character is it, and do you decide to enter the room and lock the door, or tell them you aren’t interested?
Haha, I’ll accept, provided that this character is Kate from Kate Daniels series and that she accepts to teach me how to
be a badass asskicker fight ! Plus, I know she’s interested in men so there will be no funny business behind that door ! 😉
Art by Doris (Disanthus.com)
Question 3: If you could turn any male character from one of your favorite books into a female character (or change a female into a male) in the book or book series, which one and why?
I would say Kez Brekker, from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo because I would love to read about a ruthless, icy, sociopath and vengeful female lead character ! 😀 (If you guys know of heroines, or in this case anti-heroines, like this, don’t hesitate to recommend the related books to me ! 😉
Or Kelsier, from Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson ! For some reason, I feel like female characters often lack charisma and self-confidence and this guy is just the walking definition of both ! Plus he’s strong-willed, stubborn and unyielding. He’d make for an interesting female MC !
Question 4: What blogger currently on your follower’s list (meaning they follow you too) do you admire the most and why?
I would say The Obsessive Bookseller : I discovered Niki’s blog recently and though I still didn’t catch up on everything, I came across a super interesting and helpful section : The Obsessive Bookseller Simplifies Life in 2017. This section started as Niki’s way to cope with the multiple changes that disrupted her rather organized life recently. But for me, it’s way more than that : it’s exactly what I need in my life right now. It’s very well written, it’s inspiring and, I hope for me, life-changing ! And worry not, avid readers, Niki’s blog is also a bookish blog, with reviews and news about future releases and writing workshops !
Question 5: If you could change any one decision your favorite book character made, what would it be and why?
I would change half of Gavin Guile’s (from the Lightbringer series, by Brent Weeks) decisions. Gavin is probably the most powerful man in his world, charming, clever, rich, extremely skilled with magic but he’s also capable of making brilliantly stupid decisions like not telling important truths to the woman he loves (and being forced to work with her for decades but not being with her) or risking the Empire’s fate with sheer arrogance…
Question 6: If you could pick 1 character from a book and 1 character from a TV show you watch (that is NOT based on a book) to be in a relationship together, who would you choose, and why?
James, why are you doing this to us ?? Every time I found a perfect TV show character, I remembered the said show was based on a book…
Okay, I think I’d pair Malcolm (from the homonym show) and Shallan, from the Stormlight Archive, by Brandon Sanderson because they’re both super clever, funny and because they stand out. They’d be cute together and make smart babies ! (I know it’s pretty lame but seriously, I’ve been squeezing my brain for hours now, no kidding, and couldn’t come up with something better ! :P).
Question 7: It’s your last day on Earth. As you are about to cross that final finish line, a mysterious shadow appears, giving you a choice: (1) You can go move forward to whatever comes next for you [based on your own spiritual or religious beliefs], or (2) you can become a character in a book series and exist permanently doing whatever that author chooses to do with you in the book. Which do you choose, and if it’s option 2, reveal the book and author.
Since I read mostly Fantasy, my favorite characters are never safe and always barely escaping death ! I don’t really fancy the idea of someone controlling my life and endlessly throwing me into dire ordeals so 1st option it is ! 😂
Question 8: If you could steal a pet from someone in any book you’ve read, but had to replace it with a friend’s pet (meaning they wouldn’t ever see their pet again), would you do it? If so, explain the who and why.
Though I’d love to have a giant, terrifying but loyal wolf by my side (Storm, from The Faithful and the Fallen, by John Gwynne), I’d never steal a friend’s pet! Despite not having pets and not being very fond of animals, I know how important they are to those who have them !
Question 9: If you could turn someone from your real life into a character from a book, who from your life, who in the book and why?
I would turn one close friend of mine into Kip Guile, from the Lightbringer series, by Brent Weeks. Physically, they are already pretty similar ! My friend has been through pretty tough moments because of his family and some of his friends (same as Kip) and his life has seen more “downs” than “ups” because of it. Kip’s journey is pretty inspiring and his growth into someone more confident, skilled, determined, less naive and surrounded by loyal friends, is full of hope and everything I wish for my friend.
Question 10: Post a picture of the cover of a book you read in 2000 and the book you are currently reading now. (Note: if you weren’t alive in 2000, pick the first book you ever read and tell everyone what year it was from).
I’m not sure it was exactly 2000, but around that period of my life (13 years old), I grew very fond of French classics and the one that left its mark on me is the The Red and the Black by Stendhal.
Question 11: Your favorite character (under 18) needs a place to stay for 3 months and asks you if (s)he could stay in your spare room (yes, you have one for the sake of this question). Who is it and what is the reason (s)he needs to stay with you?
***Spoilers from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows***
I would definitely choose Hermione Granger, from Harry Potter for this question (does it work if she just turned 18?).
The intrusion in the Ministry of Magic obviously turned disastrous (and now I’m just inventing a reason for her to ask for a few months’ shelter) so she agreed with the boys that they should separate and lie low for a while. Obviously, being Hermione, she put the break to good use and started a research on the missing horcruxes while devising new spells/potions to vanquish the Dark Lord.
Hermione is the perfect bookworm, so I can relate! But also inspiring, uncompromising and loyal to a fault! At 30, I know I still have a lot to learn from her!
Question 12: What is one superpower/magic skill that a favorite character of your has that you wish you had as well? What character, what power/skill and why? (you can change this question when added to your blog, but please let me know your answer to this question in the comments below)
I chose to answer the question (with a slight modification) Frankie asked because I find it fun !
Okay I’ll stick with Hermione (because she’s the most skilled) and I’ll choose “Transplanage” (which is a form of teleportation). This is my dream superpower 😍 (yes, yes I know that it’s physically impossible, but a girl can always dream !). Since I live far away from my family and most of my friends, it would be so magical (and convenient!). I’d take a breakfast with my best friend in Paris, spend the morning visiting the Pyramids in Egypt with my husband, pop up in my mom’s kitchen to eat lunch with my family, shop with my sister during the afternoon, watch a beautiful sunset on a Caribbean island, have diner with one of my Bridge Four besties… 😍 Yes, a girl can always dream…
Okay, that was way too long ! 😂😂😂
Sorry James but I’m pretty new to blogging and to this community so I’m going to cheat and tag only 8 bloggers 😉
And of course, everyone is welcome to play along ! ^^
For those of you
too lazy who choose not to answer the challenge questions… I dare you to read 3 of your DNFed books during this summer ! With love.
